The XIIIth International Symposium on Biomechanics and Medicine in Swimming (BMS 2018) will be held at the University of Tsukuba, Japan. The University of Tsukuba has two campuses, one in the city of Tsukuba city and the other in Bunkyo city, Tokyo. The program will take place mainly at the University Hall and the 5C building in the Tsukuba campus. The University of Tsukuba’s Faculty of Health and Sports Sciences has over 130 researchers and contributes to the development of scientific culture through the comprehensive promotion of basic and applied research in a wide range of academic fields.
In swimming research, numerous studies are progressing in a variety of research fields, with scientific output in applied and actual coaching and health promotion practices. Many distinguished researchers have visited and exchanged knowledge at the university, including B. Ungerechts, H. Toussaint, R. Arellano, S. Kolmogorov, R. Sanders and I. Mujika.
Tsukuba is located in Ibaraki Prefecture about 50 kilometers northeast of Tokyo. As one of Japan’s major science cities, it is home to the University of Tsukuba along with scores of renowned research institutes such as the Tsukuba Space Center of JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) and KEK (High Energy Accelerator Research Organization).
